In 1996, the third generation of Jindals joined the organization. Saket Jindal, the elder son of D.P. Jindal, joined Maharashtra Seamless as a full-time Director.
Having spent many years studying in the US, and graduating from the prestigious Boston University, Saket brought a new world perspective to the organization. He came in with a bent for finance and a clear vision of keeping MSL on the globally competitive track that had already been set upon by his father.
Today, as the Managing Director of Maharashtra Seamless Limited, he sees himself spearheading the globalization of the company, instituting processes geared towards internationally recognized standards in each aspect of the company’s operations with a special emphasis on finance and fund management as well as people management.
Saket Jindal affirms that the day-to-day work values and practices followed at MSL actually form the core of its competitive advantages: A sharp focus on cost-effectiveness, high levels of employee motivation, an emphasis on customer satisfaction, insistence on high product quality, consistently high levels of customer service and a strong growth orientation.
He is emphatic about the advantages conferred by vertical integration as well as backward and forward integration as much as possible. Since he has come on board, the company has ventured into the manufacture of Premium Connections with world leader Hydril, later taken over by Tenaris and now a wholly owned Jindal operation. He has also seen MSL begin production of coated pipes of different types.
This has enabled the company to move up the value chain. Further, the company has set up a plant at Mangaon near Nagothane to produce Drill pipes and high alloy pipes for boilers and other applications. Diversification is a strategy he also espouses and MSL have set up a wind power plant in Satara, Maharashtra, as well as a solar power plant at Pokharan, Rajasthan.
